ZZ Ultra PE laminates utilise the unique properties of the Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene - UHMWPE family of fibres. Dyneema is an example of a UHMWPE fibre that is known for its exceptional strength and low stretch, as well as its resistance to UV radiation and bending degradation.
The laminate is a composite with UHMWPE fibres inside, which have a high modulus of elasticity, which is responsible for maintaining the shape of the sail. It is also the fibre that is best suited for tourism, as it is highly resistant to the harsh conditions in which the sail is used, such as shoaling, sail breakage and UV resistance. This laminate is enclosed in a thick taffeta which also contains UHMWPE and Polyester for better adhesion of the taffeta to the laminate. The three lightest weights of ZZ Ultra PE consist of woven Ultra PE taffeta on one side and Polyester fabric on the other. The three heavier models, 495, 575 and 645 have UHMWPE taffeta on both sides.
